Retreating to the outback at El Questro Homestead

El Questro Homestead is an award-winning outback retreat which offers unique appeal for corporate getaways and executive retreats

The Kimberley region of Australia’s top end is a major drawcard for international and interstate visitors alike. From rugged sandstone ranges and broad tidal flats, to rainforest pockets, gorges and permanent waterfalls, the Kimberley region is well known for its diverse outback beauty. Situated in the East Kimberley and in the middle of almost 1 million acres of wilderness park lies El Questro Homestead, a boutique 5-star outback retreat.

Perched on a clifftop with vistas of one of the best locations on the Chamberlain River, the Homestead features nine rooms and caters for a maximum of 18 guests. Each room is air-conditioned with an ensuite and private balcony, while standard amenities and facilities include Aesop bath products, Bose Wave sound systems, a swimming pool, tennis court, shared computer with complimentary internet access and wireless broadband in public guest areas (there is no mobile phone coverage on El Questro, however, landline and fax services are available). While there are no purpose-built meeting facilities at El Questro, the Homestead and the restaurant at Emma Gorge Resort can be exclusively utilised for small meetings.

El Questro Homestead is a great destination for corporate getaways and executive retreats, and it provides a comprehensive range of activities and tours that are conducted by specially trained rangers. El Questro Wilderness Park boasts four major river systems, from freshwater springs to the saltwater estuaries in the northern part of the property, with an abundance of animals, fish and bird life congregating near rivers and waterholes. There are scenic helicopter tours over El Questro’s gorge and river systems, horse treks, bush culture, history and nature tours, guided gorge walks as well as heli-fishing and 4WD fishing tours to make the most of local barramundi fishing opportunities. Off-site activities and tours are conducted in conjunction with regional operators who use small aircraft, helicopters and boats to access the far reaches of the Kimberley.

El Questro Homestead also features a restaurant which sources and serves a great range of fresh local food and wine. The neighbouring Ord River Valley nurtures growers who provide an array of tropical and organic produce, supplemented by fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from Western Australia’s coastlines and paddocks. Breads are hand made by an on-site chef, with a different sourdough variety each day. Wines from the Margaret River region feature prominently on the wine menu beside up-and-coming Western Australian and iconic labels from Australia’s eastern states.

A combination of all the above has seen El Questro Homestead receive a range of accolades, including the number two spot in Australian Traveller’s Top 10 luxury lodges in Australia list as well as the best luxury lodge in WISH magazine’s Travel Top 50. Open from 1 April to 31 October each year, El Questro Homestead is located 110 kilometres west of Kununurra by road and is accessible by scheduled airline flights, road and air charters (El Questro operates two airstrips within the property).
